The Wolds Challenge is a fun, rewarding single-day hiking event for Scouts and Explorer Scouts, designed to test teamwork, resilience and outdoor skills without the overnight element of the Fells Marathon.
Teams will take on routes of around 11 to 15 miles, navigating through the day while working together to complete the challenge. It is a brilliant opportunity for young people to build confidence, develop their map-reading and teamwork skills, and enjoy a proper outdoor adventure in a slightly more accessible one-day format.
While the event is shorter than the full Fells Marathon weekend, it still offers a real sense of achievement and adventure, making it ideal for teams who want to challenge themselves, gain experience, or prepare for future multi-day hiking events.
The event is usually held around the Yorkshire Wolds, making the most of the area’s rolling countryside, quiet lanes, footpaths and open views.
To keep the challenge fresh and enjoyable, the route may vary from year to year, giving teams the chance to explore different parts of the Wolds while still enjoying the same friendly, adventurous one-day format.
