Do you enjoy being out on the route, meeting teams and helping keep the event moving? This could be the role for you.
Checkpoint Team Members are based at checkpoints around the route and help record teams as they pass through. You’ll support the Checkpoint Team Leader, use the checkpoint paperwork, communicate with Event Control when needed, and help make sure teams are accounted for safely.
You’ll also be a friendly face for young people during the event, helping with basic queries and following the event process if a team needs support, is delayed, or needs to drop out.
A great role for someone who is reliable, approachable, happy to follow a process and doesn’t mind spending part of the day outside with a radio, a clipboard and possibly a packet of biscuits.
Key Tasks:
- Be flexible and adaptable to respond to the needs of the event.
- Attend the checkpoint briefing before starting the role.
- Support the Checkpoint Team Leader with the safe running of the checkpoint.
- Be based at an allocated checkpoint for the required period of the event.
- Record teams accurately as they arrive at and leave the checkpoint.
- Follow checkpoint paperwork and event processes.
- Communicate clearly with the Event Control and Checkpoint Team Leader when required.
- Use the event radio correctly and follow radio procedures.
- Provide a friendly and supportive welcome to teams passing through the checkpoint.
- Follow the correct process if a team or young person needs support, is delayed, or wishes to drop out.
- Help ensure teams are accounted for accurately throughout the event.
- Raise any concerns, safety issues or welfare matters promptly to Event Control.
- Assist with setting up and packing away the checkpoint as required.
Requirements:
- Full member with up-to-date mandatory learning – including first response.
