Do you like being organised, working with people and helping an event run smoothly? This could be the role for you.

The Checkpoint Manager helps look after our checkpoint teams before and during the event. You’ll allocate volunteers, prepare checkpoint paperwork, make sure teams understand the radios, and support them with key processes such as teams dropping out.

During the event, you’ll work with the Event Lead, Deputy and Event Control, visit checkpoints, support volunteers and help make sure everything is running safely and smoothly.

A great role for someone who is organised, approachable and happy to help keep the event on track.


Key Tasks:

• Attend Fells Marathon team meetings.
• Work with the Event Lead, Deputy Event Lead and Event Control in the lead up to and during the event.
• Allocate checkpoint volunteers from those who are booked onto the event.
• Lead and support the checkpoint volunteer team.
• Ensure checkpoint paperwork is printed, organised and boxed ready for the event.
• Ensure all checkpoint volunteers understand how to use the radio and follow the event communication process.
• Ensure checkpoint volunteers understand how to support young people appropriately, including what to do if a young person or team needs to drop out.
• Be flexible and adaptable to respond to the needs of the event.
• Visit checkpoints during the event to ensure safety standards and event processes are being followed and implemented.
• Work with Event Control to ensure teams are accounted for accurately throughout the event.
• Raise any issues, concerns or safety matters with Event Control promptly.

Requirements:

• Full member with up-to-date mandatory learning.
• Confident leading and supporting a team of adult volunteers.
• Able to communicate clearly using event radio procedures.
• Able to travel between checkpoints during the event.
• Good understanding of event safety processes and the supervision of young people.

This is role is for a single position within the fells-marathon team and will be reviewed yearly.
