1. For Teams
1.1. These rules apply to all teams (regardless of category):
1.2. All teams must complete and submit consent and medical forms no later than 7 days before the event.
1.3. Each team must leave the start with the required kit for their category.
1.4. Each team must carry at least two fully charged mobile phones, both with the What3Words app installed.
1.5. GPS devices are not permitted.
1.6. Emergency wristbands must be worn throughout the event. If one comes off, notify a member of the Fells Marathon team immediately.
1.7. Teams must pass through all checkpoints together, using the official punch cards.
1.8. In an emergency, contact Event Control, on the numbers provided on your wristband or punch cards – not parents, carers or other leaders.
1.9. If a team member retires, event staff will extract them. Where the remaining team members continue (subject to minimum team member requirements), they must share out and carry the full required team kit.
1.10. All teams are competing except Leader Led. To qualify for placement, a minimum of 4 members of any competing team must complete the hiking and navigation of the full route.
1.11. A leader in charge from each entering team must be present for the duration of the event.
1.12. There is to be NO leader intervention with the teams once the event has started.
1.13. The Event Lead is the overall decision maker during the event and has the right to send anyone home (adult or young person).
2. For All Attendees (Young People, Leaders, Staff, Parents)
2.1. Dogs are not permitted on the event – this includes parents, leaders, and staff when dropping off, collecting, or attending the event.
2.2. Smoking or vaping is not permitted in front of young people.
2.3. Everyone is responsible for their own litter and must carry it until it can be disposed of at the overnight site or the finish.
2.4. Everyone must respect the Countryside Code.
2.5. Be patient and courteous with event volunteers at all times – they are giving their time to make the event possible.
3. Leader Learning Requirement
3.1. All volunteers attending the event must have completed:
· A Scout DBS
· Safety Learning
· Safeguarding Learning
3.2. The following staff roles must also hold a valid First Response qualification:
· Event Lead
· Control Lead
· Control Support
· Checkpoint Manager
· Checkpoint Team Lead
· Sweep Team Manager
· Sweep Team Members
· Support Bus Team Members
· 4x4 Response Team Members
· Medical Team
· Centre Manager
· Overnight Site Manager (Fells only)

5. Time Penalties
5.1. We want everyone to complete the event fairly and safely.
5.2. Additional time may be added to your overall walking time for breaches, which may include but are not limited to the following:
· Breaking the rules of the event
· Walking on restricted roads / routes
· Not following the Countryside Code – e.g. climbing over fences, not shutting gates, walking across private land, not sticking to footpaths, dropping litter
· Not producing the full required kit
· Not arriving at checkpoints as a whole team
· Using motorised transport
6. Pre-Event Checks
6.1. All Team members (including adults) must present the items specified on the Kit List, at kit check before the start of the event and at any other time as requested by the event organisers.
6.2. Any deviation from the Kit List must be agreed by the Event Lead, prior to a team proceeding to the Start.
6.3. All Teams must complete Map Control before starting. Any map control standards not met by a team must be agreed by the Event Lead prior to a team proceeding to the Start.
